Smart City Mission
National Smart Cities Mission is an initiative powered by the Government of India that is an urban and retrofitting program. The mission here is to develop smart cities across the country so that they can be citizen-friendly and plausible. Here the Union Ministry of Urban Development is moving forward with a sole responsibility to collaborate with the State Governments of the respective smart cities and complete this mission with great success. Engineering learnt from great institutes like KCE, one of the Best Engineering Colleges in Coimbatore contributes greatly to such projects.
Smart Cities Mission would be focusing on the development of an area within the confinement of the cities in the country as model areas based on the development plan for an area, which is expected to have a rub-off impact on later parts of the city along with nearby towns. The cities will be chosen based on the Smart Cities Challenge, where cities will connect in a country-wide competition to capitalize on the benefits coming through the mission. In a five-year-long program, except for West Bengal, all the other states in India along with Union Territories will be participating with at least one city nominated for the Smart Cities Challenge. Furthermore, the specialized engineers will ensure the process go smoothly ahead, and if you want to contribute, join KCE today, the Top Engineering Colleges to learn the mastery of engineering.
Financial aid will be provided by the Central and State governments within the tenure of the years 2017 and 2022 in all the concerned cities and from 2022 onwards the mission will commence. The Government of India has finalized 100 cities across the nation to be developed as smart cities by focusing on the upgrade of its smart applications and infrastructure. Now out of those 100 cities, 11 are from Tamil Nadu which is an achievement in itself. The cities are Chennai, Coimbatore, Erode, Madurai, Tiruchirappalli, Thanjavur, Tirunelveli, Salem, Thoothukudi, Vellore and Tiruppur. And if you learnt the best of engineering from KCE, Top Mechatronics Engineering Colleges in Coimbatore then you can help with the same development to your state.
Welcome to Coimbatore Smart City
Out of the 11 selected cities from Tamil Nadu, Coimbatore is one among that in the first round to complete the Smart Cities Challenge. On 28th January 2016, Minister of Urban Development – Shri Venkaiah Naidu announced the selected cities which then received the funds to start the project of Smart Cities development.
Under the various broad categories for Coimbatore smart city, some of them are Water Restoration and conservation, Energy Conservation, Solid waste management, Energy Conservation, Smart surveillance, Water supply, Social and infrastructure development. Among all these projects, most of the focus will be given for Water Restoration Projects.
Coimbatore city has eight lakes that are symmetrically present to each other named: Kurichi, Krishnampathi, Valankulam, Selvampathy, Kumaraswamy, Selva Chinthamanikulam and Periyakulam.
The new smart city of Coimbatore will have an integrated plan which paves the way to make a connection and have an ecosystem developed around the eight lakes. Apart from this, the lakes will also be surrounded by open public spaces, parks, open zoological parks, and botanical gardens that will undoubtedly enhance the attraction. The water quality will also be monitored regularly in all the lakes that will have dedicated mounted floats. All the lakes would be utilized for studying its bio-diversity and also the protected exclusive paths will be constructed for encouraging walks, jogging, and cycling with skywalks also be getting developed around the roads.
Complex functions will be contained with facilities such as a ramp for the disabled, seating arrangements, bike parking, footpath, sign symbol, cycle lane footpath, drinking water, lighting, passengers shed, and bus bay. An extensive atmosphere created for the pedestrians and efficient CCTV surveillance to support the traffic network will come out handy as an added benefit that can be seen in the Coimbatore Smart City. The engineering skills come very handy in such developments and you can be the master as well by taking admission at KCE, one of the best Civil Engineering Colleges in Coimbatore.
