School of Management Studies at Karpagam College of Engineering organized an expert guest lecture on August 1, 2025, titled “Driving Logistics Efficiency in India: From Traditional Trucking to Tech-Driven Transport.” The session took place at MG Hall at 10:00 AM. This event was conducted under the coordination of Ms. R. Shivani, Assistant Professor of SoMS, with the support and leadership of Dr. C. Meera, Head of the Department of Management Studies, and Dr. P. Karthigaikumar, the Principal of the institution.
The resource person for the lecture was Mr. A. Nithish Kumar, CEO of NJ Roadways, Coimbatore. Known for his extensive experience in logistics and transport operations, Mr. Nithish Kumar provided valuable insights into how India’s logistics sector is undergoing a transformative shift. He began the session by introducing the traditional trucking system that has long dominated the Indian transport sector. He shed light on various limitations such as manual handling, lack of real-time tracking, inefficient fleet management, and delivery inconsistencies that continue to pose challenges in the conventional approach.
He then skillfully transitioned into discussing the role of modern technologies in revamping the logistics industry. Mr. Kumar explained the significance of GPS-enabled tracking systems, IoT devices, data analytics, automation tools, and fleet management software in streamlining transportation operations. Through vivid real-life examples and industry case studies, he illustrated how technology is optimizing routes, reducing transit time, improving fuel efficiency, and elevating customer satisfaction.
The session proved to be immensely beneficial for the students as it provided them with a deeper understanding of the logistics sector’s evolution and the potential career and entrepreneurial opportunities it presents. The students found the session both informative and engaging, as Mr. Kumar’s real-world perspectives helped them relate theoretical knowledge with current industry practices. His journey as an entrepreneur in the logistics sector further inspired students to think innovatively and consider how emerging technologies can be utilized in traditional business models.
